The 2024 NFL season is eight weeks underway, and the Commanders have taken the league by storm. Led by rookie phenom quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commie’s have built themselves a 6-2 record, first in the NFC East. Daniels, drafted second overall out of LSU, has cemented himself as a versatile weapon for the Commanders. He not only boasts a blend of precision passing, but he also is explosive on his feet. He has thrown for over 1700 yards already, with seven touchdown passes. Daniels has also found his stride with veteran wide receiver Terry McLaurin, racking up 579 yards together. Daniels was Terry’s sixth starting quarterback in as many years to start the season, but it is safe to say there will not be a seventh next year.
Beyond his success on the field, Daniels has also shown his perseverance and resilience. He has adjusted seamlessly with his new offense, earning praises from his coaching staff on his work ethic and commitment to the team. He also suffered a rib injury in week six, and only missed one week before making it back for last Sunday’s showdown against the Bears, where he threw for 326 yards. The ending of this game will go down in history, as Daniels launched a Hail Mary throw to the end zone as time expired, where it was caught for the win by wide receiver Noah Brown.
If Daniels can continue to perform at the high level he has been all season, the Commanders could become serious con- tenders out of the NFC. Most Commanders fans are optimistic for the first time since the RGIII days, as being a Washington football fan in the past few years has been no fun at all. It isn’t just Commanders’ fans getting excited though; football fans across the country have taken a liking to the Commanders, as they have a young, talented, and fun to watch squad.
The Commanders take on division rivals New York Giants this Sunday. At 2-6, the Giants are not particularly formidable offensively, and their lackluster defense should lead to an offensive masterclass from Daniels. If the Commanders can add a few more defensive pieces before the trade deadline and Daniels keeps performing the way he has been, then the Commanders will be Super Bowl Champions come February.
