Last year in the 2023-24 season the Washington Wizards went 15-67 and placed 2nd to last in the Eastern conference and in the league right above the Detroit Pistons. This year in the 2024-25 season ESPN predicts the Wizards to win 22 games and ESPN also has Washington with a 0.1% chance of making the NBA playoffs. It seems all odds are against the Washington Wizards and there is no hope in the current rebuilding process, but I have faith in this rebuild where they are going step by step and brick by brick. During the off season, Washington was able to get their hands on a rookie, French 7-footer, Alex Starr, in the second overall pick of the 2024 draft. Many people believe that he is the most talented person in the 2024 draft class. also during the off season the Wizards were able land Bub Carrington, the 14th overall pick in the 2024 draft, for this they traded away Deni Avdija.
Washington’s biggest strength is definitely the Rookie Alex Starr. There are also many other good weapons on this team, such as Bilal Coulibaly, a 20 year old guard who exceeded his expectations last season averaging 8 points and 4 rebounds a game with great defense too. Jordan Poole should also be someone to watch because with Malcum Brogdon out due to recently undergoing surgery, we will see more of Jordan Poole at point guard. During preseason the Wizards won 2 out of the 3 games beating the Toronto Raptors on October 11th and defeating the New York Knicks in the last preseason game. During the regular season so far the wizards have won 2 of the 4 games losing to the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers, while beating the Atlanta Hawks twice. Surprisingly the Celtics game was not a complete blow out considering the Wizards were second to last in the conference and the Celtics won the NBA championship last year. Instead the final score was 122-102 Celtics. The Cleveland game was also pretty close with the final being 135-116 Cavaliers. We were able to barely squeeze in a win against the hawks for the first time we played them with the Wizards beating them by a missed last second three pointer, and the score was 121-119 Washington. Two days later we were able to beat the hawks again, this time with a more comfortable distance with the final score be- ing 133-120 Wizards. It is still very early in the season and I think that this team has a lot of potential and can definitely have a successful season and improve from last year.
