Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, a fight no one ever had ever imagine, is taking place on July 20th this year. The fight will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas—home of the Dallas Cowboys—and will be livestreamed globally on Netflix. On March 7, it was officially announced that the YouTube star would face the former heavyweight champion of the world and boxing titan, Mike Tyson. The strangeness of the match has brought a great deal of attention as the two fighters have seemingly nothing in common. Mike Tyson, arguably the greatest boxer of all time, is taking on a YouTuber and influencer with a weak fighting resume. Many potential viewers are questioning how well the two will compare to each another.
First off, Mike Tyson has a 50-6 record all time, whereas Jake Paul has a 10 – 1 record. However, many scoff at the competition that Paul has faced which can include older boxers and former athletes. Second, Paul is listed at 200 pounds while Tyson weighs 220 lbs. But, the most perplexing difference is in age. Tyson is 57 years old and, although way more experienced than Paul, there are concerns he is not as sharp as he once was. Jake Paul is thirty years younger than Tyson, and since he is in the best physical shape of his life, many think he will win with ease.
However, one Prep student, Malachi Streeter, ’25 sees it differently: “Leading up to this fight, I have high hopes. I am not a fan of Jake Paul anymore because he tried to recreate Tyson’s infamous white tiger photo. This brawl between the notorious Mike Tyson and Jake Paul will be a snooze fest. Not only will Mike Tyson knock the celebrity out of Jake Paul, but it will be a crime scene.” This fight embodies new school versus old school, a matchup that nobody expected, yet one we get to see: Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson.
